Dutch yacht builder Heesen Yachts has reached another significant milestone with the 49.98-metre superyacht Sophia, which has now commenced sea trials in the North Sea ahead of her scheduled delivery in July 2026.
As the fourth vessel in Heesen’s acclaimed 5000 Aluminium series, Sophia combines striking contemporary design with the performance credentials for which the Dutch shipyard is renowned. Designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, the yacht presents a sleek and dynamic profile, accentuated by a sophisticated Whisper Grey finish that highlights her elegant lines.
Beneath the exterior lies Heesen’s proven Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), developed to deliver both speed and efficiency. Constructed entirely in aluminium, Sophia is powered by twin MTU engines and is expected to reach a top speed of 23 knots. At a cruising speed of 11 knots, she offers an impressive range of approximately 3,100 nautical miles, making her equally suited to coastal cruising and longer passages.
The yacht’s interior, created by Cristiano Gatto Design, embraces a refined yet welcoming aesthetic. A carefully curated palette of sage green, warm bronze and mustard accents creates a sophisticated atmosphere inspired by the meaning of the yacht’s name, which originates from the Greek word for wisdom. The result is an elegant living environment that balances luxury with comfort.
Accommodation is arranged for up to 12 guests across five staterooms. The owner’s suite occupies a privileged position on the forward main deck, while the remaining guest cabins are located on the lower deck. With a volume of 499 GT, the yacht offers generous interior spaces rarely found in vessels of this size.
Outdoor enjoyment is a central feature of the design. A spacious beach club connects guests directly to the sea, while the aft decks provide multiple areas for relaxation and socialising. The bridge deck offers an inviting setting for alfresco dining, and the expansive sundeck delivers ample space for entertaining, lounging and soaking up panoramic views.
Launched in March 2026 from Heesen’s facility in Oss, the Netherlands, Sophia has progressed steadily through the final stages of construction and commissioning. With sea trials now underway, the yacht is preparing to demonstrate the performance, comfort and craftsmanship that define Heesen’s latest generation of aluminium superyachts.
Delivery is scheduled for 15 July 2026.
